The Texas Women’s Open celebrates its eleventh anniversary in 2011 since being revived after a 46-year hiatus. The Open has matured into an event with a large field of players and a draw well beyond Texas. Thirty-eight professionals were among 118 players from 12 U.S. states, Canada, Mexico and Australia who competed for the title last year.
The 2010 purse was $19,300.00 with champion Cindy Figg-Currier taking home $4,000.00 for her victory. Figg-Currier played on the LPGA Tour for 20 years, won a tour event in 1997. In her career she won more than $2,000,000.00.
The next challenge in making the Texas Women’s Open one of the nation’s premiere opens is to increase the purse to draw more professional golfers and an even more competitive field in the future.
The Texas Women’s Open is seeking a Title Sponsor. The tournament will carry the sponsor’s name, which will be advertised across the country. The PGA’s Northern Texas Section will work with the sponsor to tailor needs and preferences. Benefits can include, but are not limited to tickets to various PGA TOUR events, Ryder Cup access, rounds of golf at exclusive Dallas area courses, team participation in the Texas Women’s Open Pro-Am, and clinics for sponsor guests. The tournament, for the past three years, has benefitted New Beginning Center, a Garland-based organization serving families affected by domestic violence. The sponsor can continue this relationship or choose a new beneficiary.
