Deane Captures Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship
August 14th 2012 -
PROSPER, TEXAS – Stuart Deane, PGA teaching professional at Sinclair’s Golf Training Center, bested Dean Larsson, PGA assistant professional at Bent Tree Country Club and Perry Arthur, PGA head professional at The Golf Club of Dallas, in a sudden death playoff to capture the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship. Deane posted a two-round total score of 4-under par, 140 to win his first Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship and second individual major championship.  Deane’s second round included three birdies and just one bogey to shoot 2-under, 70.  Deane also won the Callaway Golf Western Championship two months prior to this event. He took home a $2,600 check for his victory.

“My goal today was to make no bogeys and to not try,” Deane said after his final round.  “I know I can play and I have been playing a lot lately, but I seem to get into tournaments and try too hard. I just wanted to go out there and not try too much.”

Deane is exempt into the 46th PGA National Professional Championship with his top 20 finish at the 45th PGA National Professional Championship early this year at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, California, leaving the seven qualifying spots still available for the remaining field.

Larsson and Arthur tied for second place at 4-under par, 140.  Troy Denton, PGA assistant professional at Stevens Park Golf Course, and Greg Sikes, PGA head professional at Hogan Park Golf Course, finished tied for fourth at 2-under par, 142.

Deane will lead seven PGA professionals from the Northern Texas Section to the 46th PGA Professional National Championship at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon, to be conducted on June 23 – June 26, 2013. Joining Deane will be Larsson, Arthur, Denton, and Sikes along with Clint Avara, PGA teaching professional at Golf Galaxy, Lee Rhind, PGA assistant professional at Midland Country Club, and Sam Randolph, PGA teaching professional at Hawks Creek Golf Club. Randolph took the final qualifying spot after surviving a three-man playoff.

The top 20 players from the 46th PGA National Professional Championship will compete in the 95th PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., set for August 5-11, 2013.

This 36-hole NTPGA Section major championship is the third of the four individual stroke play championships that comprise the Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, as well as a qualifier to earn points to make the 2012 NTPGA Match Play Championship and Texas Joe Black Cup team.  The Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship is presented by Club Car, Mercedes-Benz and OMEGA and supported by Titleist/FootJoy, Callaway Golf, TaylorMade-adidas Ashworth, Nike Golf, HP Byron Nelson Championship and PGA TOUR.  The Championship was conducted at Gentle Creek Golf Club, a 7,232 yard par 72, D.A.
