Deane Claims Prize Possessions Eastern Championship

June 13th, 2017

Anna, TX – Stuart Deane, PGA director of golf at The University of Texas at Arlington, carded a 4-under 68 in today’s final round of the Prize Possessions Eastern Championship to claim his third Eastern Championship title and 13th NTPGA Section Individual Major Championship.  Deane started strong, carding back-to-back birdies. He had a bogey-free round and managed two more birdies on #15 and #17 to edge the field for the victory.

"I got through the first nine holes yesterday and I found something in my golf swing," said Deane after his round.  "I started hitting [the ball] really good, and my short game was really nice. I only had one bogey in two rounds, so it was a nice start to the year."

Defending champion Greg Gregory, PGA assistant professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course, and Ben Kern, assistant professional at Oeste Ranch Golf Course, finished tied for second after both carding matching rounds of 72-70—142, 2-under par.

The Championship included a Senior Division that was comprised of 34 of the 122 participants aged 50 or older who competed for a separate $10,000 purse and played at a modified yardage.  Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, was the 2017 Prize Possessions Eastern Championship Senior Division champion.  Glanton, who posted rounds of 71-73—144, even par, took home $1,750 for his win.

This 36-hole NTPGA major championship was the first of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company  / Lajitas Golf Resort Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf.  It also serves as a qualifier for the 2017 Texas Joe Black Cup and Levy Cup Matches teams.

The Prize Possession Eastern Championship featured a field of 122 Northern Texas PGA Members and Apprentices competing at Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna.

The Open Division field competed for a share of the $26,000 purse with Deane taking home $3,900 for first place.  The overall Championship purse was $37,500.
The Prize Possessions Eastern Championship was presented by AT&T Byron Nelson, E-Z-GO, Junior.Golf, PGA TOUR and Pukka Headwear.
