Deane & Jewell Share Lead After Round One of the Prize Possessions Eastern Championship

Anna, TX – Stuart Deane, PGA golf coach at University of Texas at Arlington, and Vince Jewell, PGA teaching professional at Woodbridge Golf Course, share the lead after round one of the Prize Possessions Eastern Championship.  Deane and Jewell each carded a 2-under 70 for today’s round.  Deane carded just one bogey and three birdies on his way to one of the two low rounds of the day, while Jewell notched five birdies, but had a bogey and a double-bogey during his opening round. 

Two competitors sit just one shot back of the leaders including David Studebaker, assistant professional at Cross Timbers Golf Course, and Adam Headley, PGA head professional at Hillcrest Country Club.  Defending champion Greg Gregory, PGA assistant professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course, is two shots off the pace after shooting an opening round of 72, even par, along with three other professionals.

The Championship includes a Senior Division that is comprised of participants aged 50 or older who are competing for a separate $10,000 purse and playing at a modified yardage. The Senior champion will take home $1,750. Perry Arthur, PGA golf course owner at The Golf Club of Dallas, leads the Senior Division at 3-under par, 69.

This 36-hole NTPGA major championship is the first of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company  / Lajitas Golf Resort Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf, and serves as a qualifier for the 2017 Texas Joe Black Cup and Levy Cup Matches teams.  The Prize Possession Eastern Championship features a field of 122 Northern Texas PGA Members and Apprentices competing at Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna. 

The Open Division field is competing for a share of the projected $25,500 purse with the champion taking home $3,900 for first place.  Round two will commence at 8:00 a.m. with tee times off of #1 and #10 tee.  The leaders will tee off at approximately 2:00 p.m. 
 
The Prize Possessions Eastern Championship is presented by AT&T Byron Nelson, E-Z-GO, Junior.Golf, PGA TOUR and Pukka Headwear.
