Hoffman Jumps Into Lead at the 2017 Energy Producers, Inc. Texas Women's Open at Rolling Hills Country Club

July 13th, 2017

ARLINGTON, TX – Sarah Hoffman of Saline, Michigan, will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Energy Producers, Inc. Texas Women’s Open at Rolling Hills Country Club over defending champion Savannah Vilaubi of Downey, California, and Felicia Leftinger of Miami, Florida. Picking up where she left off in round one when she shot a 1-under, 70, Hoffman birdied two of her last four holes during today’s round to jump into first place. Today, she carded five birdies and two bogeys for a second round total of 68, 3-under par. Hoffman sits at 4-under par, 138 for the Championship, while Vilaubi and Leftinger are one stroke back at 3-under par, 139.

Hoffman stated: “The lead going into the last day is a great position and that’s where we all want to be. I left a lot of putts out there, but I hit sixteen greens so you’re always going to feel like you left a few putts out there. To win the Texas Women’s Open would be awesome and a great confidence booster before Q-School next month. It would also be my first professional win. I’ve had a few amateur wins, but to win professionally would be awesome.”

Following today’s round, the 138-player field was cut to the low 50 scores and ties. Hoffman will lead a field of 55 players into the final round of the Championship.  34 professionals and 21 amateurs survived the 8-over-par 150 total cut.

The 34 remaining professionals in the field are competing for a share of the projected $27,500 overall purse.  The 21 remaining amateurs are competing for the Low Amateur award and a crystal trophy. The top five amateurs will receive gift certificates.  Currently, Susy Grunden (a) of Denton, Texas, sits atop the low amateur leaderboard at even par, 142.

The 55 players who made the cut will also be competing for an LPGA Tour exemption. The 2017 Champion will receive an exemption into the 2018 Volunteers of America Texas Shootout.

The 54-hole stroke play event began with a field of 138 top playing professionals and amateurs competing at Rolling Hills Country Club in Arlington, Texas.  This is the fourth year for Rolling Hills Country Club has hosted the championship.
