Jerry J. Ransom Pro-Junior-Am Benefits NTPGA Junior Golf Foundation

June 4th, 2018

DALLAS, TEXAS – The inaugural Jerry J. Ransom Pro-Junior-Am, a fundraising golf tournament conducted by the Northern Texas PGA for the benefit of the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation, was held today at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas. The event raised $118,000 this year.

The Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation announced the partnership with Jerry J. Ransom last year, and created the event to help raise funds to continue to grow the game of golf in North Texas. Today, however, is the first playing of the event as inclement weather forced the cancellation of last year’s event.

Ransom is from Greenville, Texas, and is an avid golfer. He has supported the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation’s growth of the game initiatives for many years, but wanted to do more to give back and further support the NTPGA’s initiatives. The funds raised from the event will benefit the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation’s broad-based community outreach programs including the Foundation’s college scholarship program, summer camps, internships and the junior tour. More than 10,000 kids benefit each year from this support and the positive life lessons encouraged by the game of golf in North Texas.

The inaugural Jerry J. Ransom Pro-Junior-Am featured 14 teams consisting of three amateurs, a PGA of America golf professional and a former or current NTPGA Junior Tour member.

The team consisting of PGA professional Ronny Glanton and junior golfer, Libby Winans along with amateurs Jerry Ransom, Keith Bonham and Wendell Martin carded a 15-under par, 127, to win the event. Glanton and Winans fired a tournament low in the Pro-Junior format of 63, combined with the amateurs low new score of 64.

Following the tournament, the names of the junior golfers who participated were placed into a random drawing for a $5,000 scholarship to further their education.  Megan Daleo, of Plano, Texas, took home the check and funds will be paid to Sonoma State University in Megan’s name where she will be playing collegiate golf in the fall.  This year, the NTPGA Junior Golf Foundation will award a record of $305,000 in scholarships to students.

A special thank you goes out to Mr. Ransom and all he has done for the Northern Texas PGA, our local PGA Professionals, junior golfers in North Texas and the game of golf.

Final results follow. The scoring format was the low net ball of the three amateurs added to the professional team score playing a modified alternate stroke. Complete results follow (professional score – amateur score – total).
