From November 1 through November 3, the Northern Texas PGA squared off against the Southern Texas PGA in the 35th Texas Joe Black Cup Matches at Summit Rock at Horseshoe Bay Resort. The STPGA team was victorious besting the NTPGA team 13.5 to 10.5. The STPGA now leads the Matches with a record of 18-16-1.
The Texas Joe Black Cup Matches is an annual competition between the Northern and Southern Texas PGA Sections. The Ryder Cup-style format features 12 golf professionals from each Section competing in Foursome, Four-Ball and Singles Matches. Randy Smith, PGA Golf Professional Emeritus at Royal Oaks Country Club, served as the 2015 captain. He was the first person from either Section to serve as captain of a Texas Joe Black Cup team for a third time. He was also captain in 1987 and in 1991. Smith is a 2005 inductee of The PGA of America Hall of Fame. He is the all-time leading PGA of America National Award winner with 18 national awards. In 1996, he was named Golf Professional of the Year by The PGA of America.
