LARSSON CAPTURES E-Z-GO / UST MAMIYA EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
Richardson, TX – Dean Larsson began his final round in a tie for second place with Troy Lewis, assistant golf professional at Brook Hollow Golf Club at 2-under par and one shot behind first round leader Tom Strueber, PGA Life Member. Larsson, assistant golf professional at Bent Tree Country Club made an early move in his final round with a birdie on the par-5 first hole. He shot an opening nine hole total of 34 (-1) and followed it up with a back nine total of 35 (-1) for a total final round score of 2-under par 69. Larsson took advantage of the par-5’s, playing all four in 5-under par for the final round. Larsson finished with rounds of 69-69 for a two round total of 138 (-4) to capture the Championship by two shots. This is Larsson’s 10th individual major championship which is fifth all time behind, Robert Hoyt (11), Lindy Miller (14), Benny Passons (15) and Perry Arthur (17).
Perry Arthur, teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course and Troy Lewis finished in a tie for second place with a two round total of 140 (-2). Strueber shot a final round 74 to finish with a two day total of 142 (even par) to finish in a tie for fourth place.
This 36-hole NTPGA major championship is the first of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Cleveland Golf / SRIXON / Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, and serves as a qualifier for the 2009 Texas Joe Black Cup and James P. Jordan Cup teams. The E-Z-GO / UST MAMIYA Eastern Championship featured a field of 112 NTPGA Members and Apprentices competing at Sherrill Park Golf Course (#1) in Richardson.
The golf professionals are competed for a share of the $34,000.00 purse with Larsson taking home $4,200.00 for first place.
The E-Z-GO / UST MAMIYA Eastern Championship was presented by Bridgestone Golf, Bushnell, HP Byron Nelson Championship, Pepsi-Cola, Pukka Headwear and Puma Golf.
