Ashley Tait of Littleton, Colorado captured the Texas Women’s Open by two strokes over Katy Harris of Humble, Texas with a final round score of 1-under par, 69 and 7-under par, 133 tournament total. Tait began her round with birdies on holes #1 and #3 and finished her first nine holes at even par, 35. A bogey-free back nine with one birdie on hole #16 lead to a 1-under par, 34. The Texas Women’s Open is Tait’s first professional victory. Tait will take home a check for $4,300.00.
Victoria Vela (a) of Mansfield, Texas captured the low amateur award for the second consecutive year with a final round score of 1-under par, 69 and 2-under par, 138 tournament total. Vela posted a front nine score of 2-over par, 37, but came in strong with a 3-under par, 32 back nine. Vela recorded five birdies and four bogies in her round today.
Past champions in the field included Cindy Figg-Currier (2010) of Austin, Texas; Tanya Wadhwa (2008) of McKinney, Texas; Shannon Fish (2007) of Spring, Texas; Carolyn Creekmore (a) (2006) of Dallas, Texas; and Mina Hardin (a) (2004) of Fort Worth, Texas.
The 36-hole stroke play event featured a field of 123 top playing professionals and amateurs competing at Eastern Hills Country Club located in Garland, Texas. This year is the 11th anniversary that Eastern Hills Country Club has played host to the Texas Women’s Open.
The 48 professionals in the field competed for a share of the $24,400.00 purse with the professional champion taking home $4,300.00 for first place. The 75 amateurs competed for the low amateur award and a crystal trophy. The top five amateurs received gift certificates.
The 2011 Texas Women’s Open at Eastern Hills Country Club is benefiting the Hope Clinic of Garland.
