Ford Gurley • March 30, 2022

LEWISVILLE, TX – Cyril Bouniol, PGA TOUR and amateur partner Robbe Trout (a) secured the title of Srixon/Cleveland Golf/Asics Pro-Scratch Champions. Their opening-round of seven-under-par, 65 followed by a second round eight-under-par, 64 for a total of 15-under-par was enough to hold off the field.

The team from Mira Vista Country Club was led by Bouniol who carded 9-birdies on his own in the final round, despite the 35+ mph wind gusts. “Yesterday, I played great, I hit the ball beautifully. Hit every green (in regulation)... and then I just putted really poorly. Today I made 9-birdies in that wind which was pretty solid.” The team of Bouniol and Trout (a) finished the tournament with 18 birdies.

The Four-Ball Stroke Play Northern Texas PGA major championship was hosted by The Lakes at Castle Hills and consisted of 96 two-person teams. Each team featured one PGA Professional along with one scratch amateur golfer. The field competed for a record Championship purse of $29,000. Amateurs on the top finishing teams were awarded gift certificates.

The Open Division featured a field of 73 teams. Of those 73, eight teams finished the tournament 10-under-par or better. Bouniol and Trout (a) both walked away with $1,000 for their championship win. The Championship also featured a Senior Division which consisted of 23 teams with participants paired together aged 50 or older playing at modified yardages. The Senior Division played for a separate purse of $6,950.

The team of Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Dallas Athletic Club and Mark Motes (a), secured the Senior Division title and finished at 12-under-par (65-67-132). Hendley and Motes (a) took home $500 each for their win. Hendley said, “Today was just survival - very difficult conditions. Every hole was difficult, every shot was difficult… Mark was solid all day. He saved us on a lot of holes.”

Srixon/Cleveland Golf/Asics also sponsored a bonus pool for professionals who played qualifying equipment. Cyril Bouniol, took first place in the Open Division Bonus Pool and Stuart Hendley took first place in the Senior Division Bonus Pool.

The Srixon/Cleveland Golf/Asics Pro-Scratch Championship was presented by Adventures In Golf, AT&T Byron Nelson, Dan Liscio & Donald Ross Sportswear, Hyperice, Jim Quinn’s Finer Golf Products, Maui Jim and Talley Riggins Construction Group.

The PGA of America announced today that Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, will be inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Glanton, a native of Mineral Wells, Texas, began his career in 1981 as an Assistant Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas. Upon achieving PGA of America membership in 1984, he took over as Head Professional and has been at the Richardson facility ever since. He is the only member to serve twice as President of the NTPGA (2006-07, ‘18-’19). Glanton played a key role in the PGA of America’s relocation to Frisco, Texas. He is a passionate advocate for junior golf, developing impactful programs like the Sherrill Park Learning Center and the Hawks junior golf team, which have introduced thousands of new golfers to the game; his leadership in the creation of “The Ronny” Golf Park on the PGA Frisco campus further expands community outreach and player development. Among his previous awards are PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year (2020), NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year (1999, ‘07, ‘19), NTPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award (2003-05, ‘08, ‘14) and NTPGA Merchandiser of the Year (1994), plus induction into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Glanton actively supports his colleagues, raising over $100,000 through pro-ams for PGA Members facing medical hardships. He’s also been a four-time contestant in the PGA Professional Championship, five-time contestant in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship and seven-time participant in the PGA TOUR Byron Nelson (now the CJ Cup Byron Nelson). Glanton is a three-time NTPGA Major Champion, six-time Senior Division Major Champion and a 17-time member of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team, which he has also captained three times. The PGA of America Hall of Fame originated in 1940 at the suggestion of famed sportswriter Grantland Rice. It is the highest honor the PGA of America can bestow upon its membership or ambassadors of the game.
