Deane Qualifies for 2019 PGA Championship

Taylor Coffelt • May 2, 2019

Congratulations to Stuart Deane, PGA teaching professional at Texas Star Golf Course, who qualified for the PGA Championship earlier this week. Deane qualified through his great play at the PGA Professional Championship conducted April 28-May 1 at Belfair in Bluffton, South Carolina. He finished in third place at 4-under-par, 283 and is one of the 20 PGA professionals to qualify for the PGA Championship which will be held May 16-19, 2019, at Bethpage State Park, Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. This will be Stuart’s third appearance at the PGA Championship; he played in the Championship in 2014 at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky and in 2017 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The week prior to the PGA Championship, Deane is set to compete in the PGA TOUR's AT&T Byron Nelson. Deane received an exemption into the AT&T Byron Nelson when he won the Joyce Crane / Veritex Bank Section Championship in September of 2018. At the time he stated, “This will be my fifth time to compete in the Byron Nelson. It is always a privilege to play out there. Another massive motivating factor this week was when a friend mentioned that it would be really cool to play the Byron Nelson and the PGA Championship in back to back weeks. So, now my next goal is to make sure I am prepared for Nationals next year to try to make that happen.”

Well Stuart, you did it. Congratulations and best of luck in the coming weeks!
