Dillard Storms His Way Into the Lead at the On The Rocks | Golf Pro Payments Western Championship

MIDLAND, TX – Spencer Dillard, PGA assistant professional at Preston Trail Golf Club stormed his way into the lead with an opening round 32-32–64, 8-under-par. 

Dillard has been playing well coming into the Championship. He shot a 61 on Friday at Preston Trail Golf Club and another 61 on Sunday during his practice round at Midland Country Club. This is Spencer’s third year in the Northern Texas Section and he is eyeing his second individual Section Major Championship victory. 

25 players are currently under-par and five players are within five shots of the lead

with 18 holes remaining to be played tomorrow. 

The Championship also includes a Senior Division that is made up of 22 professionals ages 50 and over, playing for a separate title and purse. Todd McCorkle, PGA Life Member, and Bruce Smith, PGA director of instruction at Black Belt Golf Academy, both sit one shot ahead of the field at 2-under-par. Six other players are at 1-under-par, with their eyes fixed on the leaders heading into tomorrow.



This 36-hole Northern Texas PGA Major Championship is the second of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company | Srixon / Cleveland Golf / Asics Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf.

The 102 Northern Texas PGA Members and Associates in the field are competing for a $47,000 overall purse. The Open Division Champion will take home $4,000 and the Senior Division Champion will take home $1,500. The final round will begin at 7:45 a.m. tomorrow. The Senior Division will go off first, followed by the Open Division. 

Today’s round also featured an additional $600 XXIO Skins Game for professionals employed at XXIO dealer facilities. Jeff Barton, PGA director of instruction at Preston Trail Golf Club, and Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Dallas Athletic Club, each won a skin.
