WHITNEY, Texas (October 6) – Eight professionals remain in the 2025 Yamaha Golf-Car Company | Srixon and Nike Match Play Championship at White Bluff Resort (New Course). Forty PGA Professionals earned a spot in the field through their play during the 2025 Northern Texas PGA tournament season, with 32 in the Open Division and eight in the Senior Division.

After two rounds of matches, the following PGA Professionals in the Open Division will compete tomorrow in two more rounds of play for the final two spots in the Duel in the Desert.

  • (8) Spencer Dillard, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club
  • (10) Tristan Cottrell, PGA assistant professional at Bent Tree Country Club

Three past champions remain in the final eight. Gregory is a three time match play champion, winning in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Antunes claimed back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Dillard is the defending champion from 2024.

As in years past, the final matches for both divisions will be conducted at Lajitas Golf Resort in December. Each division will play a 36-hole final match at Lajitas Golf Resort’s Black Jack’s Crossing, the number one rated public golf course in Texas.

The Senior Division finalists were determined today after the field was narrowed down from eight professionals to two. Rob Shields, PGA member at The Winsford Group and Billy Harris, PGA Life Member, are the finalists.

The No. 2 seeded Shields had a big win in his morning match, defeating No.7 Brad Ott, PGA director of instruction at TPC Craig Ranch, 4&3.

In the afternoon he faced off against No. 3 Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Dallas Athletic Club. The match went all 18 holes before Shields secured the victory.

“Outstanding, looking forward to it, first time. I am grateful to go,” said Shields about going to Lajitas Golf Resort.

Speaking about his semi-finaI match today, Shields said, “I made a lot of birdies. We went back and forth, I missed several putts I should have made.”

The No. 5 seeded Harris played against No. 4 Sam Randolph, PGA instructor at Mira Vista Country Club, in the first round this morning. That match went to 20 holes before Harris was able to clinch the win.

In the semi-finals Harris played No. 1 Todd McCorkle, PGA Life Member. He was down one after eight holes but rattled off four straight wins beginning on the ninth hole to flip the match and go 3 up. He finished the match with a 3&2 victory.

“It’s really cool, I’m excited to play the course again,” said Harris about making the Duel in the Desert for the second straight. “I’m happy to go, it’s a fun place.”

2025 is the first time that the professionals can earn points towards their respective player of the year points races. Following the conclusion of the Championship the Yamaha Golf-Car | Srixon and Nike Player of the Year Player of the Year, Woman Player of the year, and the Rolex | XXIO Senior Points Challenge champion will be named.

In addition to the extra points, the field is competing for a Championship purse of $56,300, with the Open Division champion earning $10,000, while the Senior Division champion will take home $5,000.

The Yamaha Golf-Car Company | Srixon and Nike Match Play Championship is presented by Adventures In Golf, Lajitas Golf Resort, PGA TOUR, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, TPx Communications and XXIO.

THE COLONY, Texas (March 2) – The team of Robert Bruns, PGA Head Professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, along with partner Chase Walts, PGM Student at Methodist University who currently works as an assistant at Trinity Forest Golf Club won the 2026 KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship after a two hole playoff. The two carded a bogey-free, 12-under-par, final score after shooting 64 on Old American Golf Club and a 31 on the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. They bested the team of Spencer Dillard and Alastair Jones from Preston Trail Golf Club. The 27-hole, Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship was hosted at Golf Clubs at The Tribute for the sixth straight year. Teams played Old American Golf Club and the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. Bruns and Walts both had looks inside 10 feet on the second playoff hole, though it was Bruns who poured in the winning putt. “I knew he had it in the bag, so I think that made it much easier for me to just be free and let it go,” said Bruns. Walts recently became an assistant professional at Trinity Forest, and said, “Robert is such a huge mentor to me and my career already. I hope to learn from everything he knows and that goes for golf as well.” “It makes it much easier when you’re in the mix coming down the fairway and you have a great relationship with each other. At the end of the day you’re just having fun,” Bruns said after their victory. This is the first win for both Bruns and Walts in Section Major Championships. The pair earned $3,200 ($1,600 each) out of the record $32,000 total championship purse. The KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship was presented by Callaway Golf, Club Car, Evolve Golf, Landmark Golf Course Products, Range Servant, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, and Winston Collection. The complete list of award winners can be found HERE . Congratulations to all. On Monday, February 23, the NTPGA staff then conducted a Professional Development Seminar and the 58th Annual Business Meeting at Dallas Country Club. Before the meeting adjourned, the newly elected President, Ira Molayo, the PGA General Manager at Cedar Crest Golf Course in Dallas, addressed the membership. He stated that it is an honor to serve as the 32nd President of the Northern Texas PGA, using the word ‘serve’ intentionally because this position, like every role in our profession, is not about title. It is about stewardship. He then gave four notes about his commitment in these next two years – to represent all Members, across facilities, across classifications, across backgrounds, to listen carefully, to communicate clearly, and to support the staff and volunteers who carry this Section forward every day. He finished his comments by saying, “I do not intend to reinvent what is already strong. I intend to build on it.” Thank you to all of the PGA of America Golf Professionals in our Section who attended these special and important events over the past few days. Our Board and our staff look forward to a successful 2026.
