Ewing Charity Classic Sets Fundraising Record, Benefits NTPGA Foundation
DALLAS, Texas – The 16th Annual Ewing Charity Classic, a fundraising golf tournament conducted by the Northern Texas PGA for the benefit of the Northern Texas PGA Foundation, was held today at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. This year’s event raised a record $275,000.
The Ewing Charity Classic, formerly the Westcott Pro-Am, is widely considered one of the most special and unique pro-am events in the country with $5,065,000 million raised during the past 26 years for the benefit of the Northern Texas PGA Foundation's broad-based community outreach programs. The money raised helps to further the Foundation’s mission to positively impact lives and communities through golf.
The Ewing Charity Classic featured 22 teams consisting of three amateurs, a PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions, Korn Ferry Tour or LPGA Tour player and a PGA of America golf professional. Past and present tour players that participated in this year’s event included Celine Boutier, Ally Ewing, Todd Hamilton, Sebastian Munoz, Ryan Palmer, Gerina Piller, Yuka Saso, Robert Streb and John Senden among others.
The 18-hole format this year was as follows: The tour player and club professional played a modified alternate stroke and the amateurs played their own ball with full handicaps (maximum of 28). The team score was the professional team score plus the low net score of the amateurs.
Professionals Robert McMillan and Edward Loar III teamed up with amateurs Mike Backlund, Scott Munro, Tim Weymouth to shoot 18-under par, 126, to win the competition in a playoff. For full event results, please click

Dean Larsson, PGA head professional at Royal Oaks Country Club also took home a Mercedes Benz GLA 250 after hitting a 56 degree wedge from 82 yards, to 4 feet, 1 inch from the hole. The closest to the hole competition was conducted following play for PGA Golf Professionals.
“[my family] is going to be shocked and at a loss for words, talking to Holly [Larsson’s wife] a minute ago she couldn’t believe it. I’m going to drive it home now and I can’t wait for the kids and Holly to see it,” said Larsson.
The closest to the hole contest was Mr. Ewing’s idea as a way to not only help raise funds for the Northern Texas PGA Foundation but also to say a special thank you to the PGA golf professionals who participate in the event. In 2012, it was so well received that Mr. Ewing decided to keep the shootout going and has given away a car to a PGA golf professional each year since.
Chad Moscovic, PGA director of instruction at Brook Hollow Golf Club finished in second place after a shot of 5 feet, 8 inches to take home $3,000.
This was the first year that a third place prize was awarded and Britt Patton, PGA director of golf at Stonebriar Country Club took home $1,500 after a shot of 6 feet, 2 inches.
