Taylor Coffelt • July 17, 2019

Grand Prairie, TX - Josh Havard, PGA head professional at Rolling Hills Country Club in Arlington, carded five birdies and an eagle to claim his first Individual Major Championship at the TPx Communications Western Championship. He fired a final round of 7-under 65 to finish the event with rounds of 67-65–132, 12-under-par.

After the round Havard stated, “I am very happy. I have been trying for 10 years to get one of these, and today it worked out. Especially with all of the guys at the top of the leaderboard, you knew on this golf course you were going to have to come out and makes birdies. Ho-humming an even par round definitely wasn’t going to cut it, and I made the putts so it felt good. I was probably less nervous not being in the lead group, but being a couple in front of them. I caught myself on #14 where I had a three-footer for birdie and I was starting to add up where I was at. I had to cut myself off and stay focused on what I was doing rather than where I was.”

Havard took home a $3,200 check for his victory.

Cameron Doan, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, finished a stroke behind Havard at 11-under-par, 133 for the Championship with rounds of 65-68. Brandon Bingaman, assistant professional at Bent Tree Country Club, finished in third at 10-under-par, 134, while Round One leader Wes Worster, assistant professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, along with Brian Norman, PGA teaching professional at Gleneagles Country Club, and Stuart Deane, PGA teaching professional at Texas Star Golf Course, finished tied for fourth at 9-under-par, 135 .

The Championship included a Senior Division comprised of 32 professionals aged 50 or older who competed for a separate $10,285 purse and played at a modified yardage. Jon Sinclair, PGA director of instruction at Sinclair’s Golf Training, and Chuck Young, PGA teaching professional at Prairie Lakes Golf Course, both had two-day totals of 2-under-par to finish the Championship at 142 and tie for the 2019 TPx Communications Western Championship Senior Division title. They each took home a check for $1,175.

The TPx Communications Western Championship was conducted by the Northern Texas PGA Section and was presented by AT&T Byron Nelson, Cutter & Buck, Evolve Golf, Nexbelt, PGA TOUR, PlayKleen and Thiel & Thiel. The Championship was conducted July 15-16 at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie, Texas, a 6,835-yard, par 72 layout.

The 111-player field was comprised of golf professionals from the Northern Texas Section of the PGA of America who competed for an overall purse of $36,000. Professionals in the Open Division competed for a $25,715 purse.

This 36-hole NTPGA major championship was the second of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf, and served as a qualifier for the 2019 Texas Joe Black Cup and Levy Cup teams.

LEWISVILLE, Texas (September 16) – Adam Headley, PGA head professional at Green Tree Country Club captured the Joyce Crane | Veritex Bank Section Championship after a 6-under-par final round. His bogey-free 34-32–66 and a first round 69, got him to 9-under-par for the Championship and a one stroke victory. It also earned Headley an exemption into the 2026 THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. Headley was playing in the third to last group and began the final round three strokes behind the leaders. He quickly fell further behind the lead after starting with three pars, until a birdie at the par-5 4th hole got things going. On the back nine it was a battle between Headley and Brian Norman, PGA instructor at Lakewood Country Club. Headley eagled the 12th hole and added two more birdies on 15 and 18 to close and post 9-under-par. “My goal today was to play the par fives 4-under. I accomplished that,” said Headley. “I don’t like to look at the leaderboard, but I looked at it going into 18 tee and had a feeling I was sitting pretty good there.” “Honestly I didn’t think I'd ever win one. Not because I'm not a good player but because we have so many good players in the Section. If I had to choose any tournament to win, it would be this one.” Headley earned $9,250 along with his exemption into THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. “I’ve been a golf pro for almost 20 years and now to be playing in a PGA TOUR event, I don’t care how I do, It’s going to be a blast. I’m super excited about it, it’s a dream come true.”
