NTPGA • August 30, 2017

Richardson, Texas – With a birdie on #18, Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Grapevine Golf Course, captured the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship avoiding a three-person playoff with round one co-leader Tom Strueber, PGA Life Member, and Carl Worley, PGA head professional at Hide-A-Way Lake Golf Club. Hendley was eight feet below the hole when he knocked in the putt to claim his first Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship with rounds of 69-70—139, 5-under par. He took home a $1,700 check for his victory.

“I have finished second in this event the past two years to Paul Norris. I'm happy to win any event, but in was nice to finally win after those second place finishes," said Hendley after the final round. “It was really tight out there today. A bunch of guys really played well, and the last four holes it looked like really anyone could win. The course played tough today it was a little windy and a couple of guys in front of me were playing great, but I birdied #16 and #18, and it is always fun to do it when it matters.”

Strueber and Worley finished tied for second just a stroke back of Hendley at 4-under, 140. Worley had a hole-in-one during his round today. On hole 15, he hit a 4-iron, 188 yards for the ace.

Qualifying for the 2017 Senior PGA Professional National Championship was held in conjunction with the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Thirty-two players of the 51-man field attempted to qualify this week. Hendley will lead four others to represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship to be held September 28 - October 1, 2017 at Desert Mountain, Scottsdale, Arizona. They include, Worley along with Bruce Smith, PGA director of instruction at Black Belt Golf Academy, Henry Cagigal, PGA assistant professional at Rockwood Golf Course, and Paul Earnest, PGA director of golf at Four Seasons Resort and Club. Strueber was not attempting to qualify.

“Since I've been a PGA Member, every year I try to qualify in any of the events that I can. It's one of my goals for the season. Last year I finished 9th [at the Senior PGA Professional Championship] and made it to the Senior PGA Championship, so I am really looking to get back there this year,” said Hendley.

The 2017 Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, supported by Mercedes-Benz and John Deere, was a 36-hole stroke play event contested on Course #1 at Sherrill Park Golf Course, a 6,743-yard, par 72 layout located in Richardson, Texas. The PGA of America announced today that Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, will be inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Glanton, a native of Mineral Wells, Texas, began his career in 1981 as an Assistant Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas. Upon achieving PGA of America membership in 1984, he took over as Head Professional and has been at the Richardson facility ever since. He is the only member to serve twice as President of the NTPGA (2006-07, ‘18-’19). Glanton played a key role in the PGA of America’s relocation to Frisco, Texas. He is a passionate advocate for junior golf, developing impactful programs like the Sherrill Park Learning Center and the Hawks junior golf team, which have introduced thousands of new golfers to the game; his leadership in the creation of “The Ronny” Golf Park on the PGA Frisco campus further expands community outreach and player development. Among his previous awards are PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year (2020), NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year (1999, ‘07, ‘19), NTPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award (2003-05, ‘08, ‘14) and NTPGA Merchandiser of the Year (1994), plus induction into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Glanton actively supports his colleagues, raising over $100,000 through pro-ams for PGA Members facing medical hardships. He’s also been a four-time contestant in the PGA Professional Championship, five-time contestant in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship and seven-time participant in the PGA TOUR Byron Nelson (now the CJ Cup Byron Nelson). Glanton is a three-time NTPGA Major Champion, six-time Senior Division Major Champion and a 17-time member of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team, which he has also captained three times. The PGA of America Hall of Fame originated in 1940 at the suggestion of famed sportswriter Grantland Rice. It is the highest honor the PGA of America can bestow upon its membership or ambassadors of the game. Congratulations to Ronny on this momentous occasion!
