Nine NTPGA Professionals advance to national championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

FRISCO, Texas (July 1) – Matt Lohmeyer, PGA director of instruction at SLICGOLF, claimed the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship after rounds of 69-68–137, 7-under-par at Fields Ranch West at PGA Frisco.

Five pars to start his final round saw Lohmeyer’s one-stroke lead disappear, but an eagle on the par-5 6th hole kickstarted some momentum. Three birdies in the last 10 holes were enough to capture a two-stroke victory.

“The par-fives play really well to my advantage for length. I putted it really well, but usually if my driver is good I feel pretty confident at a longer type golf course,” said Lohmeyer about his play at PGA Frisco.

“I am excited to get one of these again. It's cool to win in our Section. I didn't look at the leaderboard all day....I had no idea where I was at on the leaderboard. Iliterally checked it after I three-putted on 18 from 30-feet.”

Lohmeyer is now a two-time champion of this event, winning his first in 2019. He earned a $5,100 champion’s check for his victory today.

This Championship served as a qualifier into the PGA Professional Championship, set for April 26-29, 2026, at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.

“It's the biggest event for us PGA Professionals,” said Lohmeyer about the national championship. “I would put the guys and girls in our Section up against any Section in the country as far as quality of play goes. It's pretty cool to have nine of us go out there to Bandon. Like I said, our Section is really good, and it's awesome to go represent us out there.”

Two professionals were already exempt. Reigning NTPGA Player of the Year Spencer Dillard, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, earned the Section’s pick. Brandon Bingaman, PGA assistant professional at Gleneagles Country Club, is exempt via qualifying for the 2025 PGA Championship.

The nine professionals representing the NTPGA will compete in April against a field of 312 PGA of America Golf Professionals. The goal being to earn one of 20 spots on the Corebridge Financial Team and tee it up in the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club.

Two additional highlights of the day  were two hole outs that occurred within 10 minutes of each other. Angella Then holed out on the par-5, 9th hole for an albatross and then Jarred Jeter recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3, 10th hole shortly after.

Then said, “I blacked out a little when I hit that shot because that green is just blinding and you can't see anything and I just hit a really good 9-iron and I thought it was like 20 yards over the green to be honest.” The rare albatross helped propel Then’s round and earn her a qualifying spot.

Speaking about his fourth career ace, Jeter said, “You know, I had just seen Todd hit one hole high and it went all the way to the back edge. I was like okay I need to hit one short of the hole, and sure enough it landed 10 feet short of the hole and tracked right in!”

This 36-hole Northern Texas PGA major championship was the second of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company | Srixon and Nike Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf. The field competed for a Championship purse of $46,000.

THE COLONY, Texas (March 2) – The team of Robert Bruns, PGA Head Professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, along with partner Chase Walts, PGM Student at Methodist University who currently works as an assistant at Trinity Forest Golf Club won the 2026 KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship after a two hole playoff. The two carded a bogey-free, 12-under-par, final score after shooting 64 on Old American Golf Club and a 31 on the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. They bested the team of Spencer Dillard and Alastair Jones from Preston Trail Golf Club. The 27-hole, Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship was hosted at Golf Clubs at The Tribute for the sixth straight year. Teams played Old American Golf Club and the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. Bruns and Walts both had looks inside 10 feet on the second playoff hole, though it was Bruns who poured in the winning putt. “I knew he had it in the bag, so I think that made it much easier for me to just be free and let it go,” said Bruns. Walts recently became an assistant professional at Trinity Forest, and said, “Robert is such a huge mentor to me and my career already. I hope to learn from everything he knows and that goes for golf as well.” “It makes it much easier when you’re in the mix coming down the fairway and you have a great relationship with each other. At the end of the day you’re just having fun,” Bruns said after their victory. This is the first win for both Bruns and Walts in Section Major Championships. The pair earned $3,200 ($1,600 each) out of the record $32,000 total championship purse. The KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship was presented by Callaway Golf, Club Car, Evolve Golf, Landmark Golf Course Products, Range Servant, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, and Winston Collection. He stated that it is an honor to serve as the 32nd President of the Northern Texas PGA, using the word ‘serve’ intentionally because this position, like every role in our profession, is not about title. It is about stewardship. He then gave four notes about his commitment in these next two years – to represent all Members, across facilities, across classifications, across backgrounds, to listen carefully, to communicate clearly, and to support the staff and volunteers who carry this Section forward every day. He finished his comments by saying, “I do not intend to reinvent what is already strong. I intend to build on it.” Thank you to all of the PGA of America Golf Professionals in our Section who attended these special and important events over the past few days. Our Board and our staff look forward to a successful 2026.
