Lohmeyer Victorious at the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship

Taylor Coffelt • August 21, 2019

LEWISVILLE, TEXAS – Matt Lohmeyer, PGA teaching professional at GolfTEC - Montgomery Plaza, captured the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship with rounds of 67-71—138, 6-under par. A 6-foot birdie putt on #18 was enough to seal the deal for him to capture his first Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship title and first NTPGA individual major championship.

Lohmeyer had a two shot lead heading into today’s final round, and with pressure all day from other competitors, he tried to stay focused on his game. He notched three birdies and an eagle combined with two bogeys and a double bogey for the day. With this victory, Lohmeyer took home a check for $3,250.

“It feels good! What a great first win.” Lohmeyer said of his first individual NTPGA major Championship win. “The final round of the Texas State Open I started to actually play shot by shot and it’s a one shot tournament for however many times I hit the ball. I used that [mindset] today, I didn’t look at the leaderboard until eighteen tee box so I had no idea where I was at [until then]. Unfortunately a double happened on seventeen but it’s just another hole, and I played eighteen like it’s just another hole.”

Lohmeyer will lead seven other PGA professionals who qualified today from the Northern Texas Section to the 53rd PGA Professional Championship set to take place April 26-29, 2020, at Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas. Joining him will be Greg Gregory, 2018 NTPGA Professional Championship Champion and PGA head professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course, Josh Havard, PGA head professional at Rolling Hills Country Club, Thomas Devanna, PGA assistant professional at Tangle Ridge Golf Course, Nic Ishee, PGA assistant professional at Preston Trail Golf Course, Brian Norman, PGA teaching professional at Gleneagles Country Club, Gabe Reynolds, PGA teaching professional at TopGolf - Dallas, and Britt Patton, PGA director of golf at The Vaquero Club. PGA Member, Stuart Deane is already exempt into next year’s event due to his top 20 finish at this year’s PGA Professional Championship in South Carolina.

“I get to go back to the PGA Professional Championship and will hopefully have a better finish this time.” Lohmeyer also stated. “This will be my second time playing and the goal is to go out and win. Getting the win here at least prepares me to know how to win. I’m very excited to win this, and to finally get a win.”

The 53rd PGA Professional Championship purse is $550,000, distributed among those who make the cut in the 312-player field. Golf Channel will televise all four rounds of the National Championship. If eligibility is met and maintained, the low 20 scorers in PGA Professional Championship will earn berths into the 102nd PGA Championship, May 14-17, 2020, at Harding Park Golf Club, San Francisco, California.

This 36-hole NTPGA Section major championship is the third of the four individual stroke play championships that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf. It also serves as a qualifier to earn points to make the 2019 Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Match Play Championship, Texas Joe Black Cup team and Levy Cup team.

The Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship was presented by Cadillac, Club Car and OMEGA and supported by Titleist/FootJoy, NIKE and TaylorMade Golf. Presenting partners were Golf Channel and the PGA TOUR. The Championship was conducted at The Lakes at Castle Hills, a 7,172-yard, par 72 layout located in Lewisville, Texas. THE COLONY, Texas (March 2) – The team of Robert Bruns, PGA Head Professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, along with partner Chase Walts, PGM Student at Methodist University who currently works as an assistant at Trinity Forest Golf Club won the 2026 KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship after a two hole playoff. The two carded a bogey-free, 12-under-par, final score after shooting 64 on Old American Golf Club and a 31 on the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. They bested the team of Spencer Dillard and Alastair Jones from Preston Trail Golf Club. The 27-hole, Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship was hosted at Golf Clubs at The Tribute for the sixth straight year. Teams played Old American Golf Club and the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. Bruns and Walts both had looks inside 10 feet on the second playoff hole, though it was Bruns who poured in the winning putt. “I knew he had it in the bag, so I think that made it much easier for me to just be free and let it go,” said Bruns. Walts recently became an assistant professional at Trinity Forest, and said, “Robert is such a huge mentor to me and my career already. I hope to learn from everything he knows and that goes for golf as well.” “It makes it much easier when you’re in the mix coming down the fairway and you have a great relationship with each other. At the end of the day you’re just having fun,” Bruns said after their victory. This is the first win for both Bruns and Walts in Section Major Championships. The pair earned $3,200 ($1,600 each) out of the record $32,000 total championship purse. The KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship was presented by Callaway Golf, Club Car, Evolve Golf, Landmark Golf Course Products, Range Servant, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, and Winston Collection. The dinner celebrated the 2025 NTPGA award winners, which included Northern Texas PGA Golf Professional of the Year, the Section's highest award, won by Cameron Doan, PGA director of golf at Preston Trail Golf Club. This is the highest honor given annually to a Northern Texas PGA Member, and is awarded for qualities of leadership, strong moral character and a substantial record of service to the NTPGA as well as the game of golf. The complete list of award winners can be found HERE . Congratulations to all. On Monday, February 23, the NTPGA staff then conducted a Professional Development Seminar and the 58th Annual Business Meeting at Dallas Country Club. Before the meeting adjourned, the newly elected President, Ira Molayo, the PGA General Manager at Cedar Crest Golf Course in Dallas, addressed the membership. He stated that it is an honor to serve as the 32nd President of the Northern Texas PGA, using the word ‘serve’ intentionally because this position, like every role in our profession, is not about title. It is about stewardship. He then gave four notes about his commitment in these next two years – to represent all Members, across facilities, across classifications, across backgrounds, to listen carefully, to communicate clearly, and to support the staff and volunteers who carry this Section forward every day. He finished his comments by saying, “I do not intend to reinvent what is already strong. I intend to build on it.” Thank you to all of the PGA of America Golf Professionals in our Section who attended these special and important events over the past few days. Our Board and our staff look forward to a successful 2026.
