Malcom Captures National Car Rental Northern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship

NTPGA • August 27, 2018

Dallas, Texas – Konner Malcom, assistant professional at Bent Tree Country Club, captured the National Car Rental Northern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship by one stroke over Brandon Bingaman, also an assistant professional at Bent Tree Country Club, and Craig McCoy, assistant professional at Denton Country Club. Malcom carded rounds of 68-67—135, 5-under par today to capture his first Assistant Championship title, first individual Northern Texas PGA major championship, and quite possibly his first ever tournament win according to him. He took home a $1,000 check for his victory today.

“The win feels pretty good. I am not too sure, but this may be my first win ever. I can’t really remember,” Malcom said with a laugh. “But it does feel good. My putter got kind of hot there at the end, and I made a bunch of putts coming in. It was a goal of mine to get one of the qualifying spots. Winning is just a bonus.”

Malcom will lead two other assistant professionals from the Northern Texas Section to the 42nd National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship. They include Bingaman and McCoy. The National Championship will be played November 15 – November 18, 2018 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

“Through work, Brandon has become one of my best friends, and I have actually known Craig for a long time. We have played a lot of golf together, so it is going to be fun to go down there with those guys. We will have a blast and hopefully play well and make the cut,” said Malcom.

The Championship was rescheduled after heavy rains rendered Lantana Golf Club unplayable on Monday, August 13. With other tournament commitments at Lantana, The Golf Club of Dallas was able to host the 36-hole, one-day Championship. Thank you to both golf clubs’ staffs for their support.

The National Car Rental Northern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship was conducted at The Golf Club of Dallas, a 6,650-yard par 70 course located in Dallas, Texas. A field of 52 assistant golf professionals competed for a share of the $7,000 purse. Forty-three professionals were attempting to qualify for the National Championship.
