Miller Honored at Texas Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Monday
2016 Texas Golf Hall of Fame Inductees
The next chapter of Texas Golf history was written Monday as the Class of 2016 was formally inducted into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in a daylong ceremony of memories and celebration, capped by the formal induction banquet at San Antonio Country Club.
Northern Texas PGA member Lindy Miller
was among those who were inducted on Monday night. He was honored in the Texas golf professional / teacher category. Miller has made a name for himself as a teacher, promoter of the game and driving force behind the First Tee Program of Fort Worth. He was an All-American and member of two NCAA Championship teams during his career at Oklahoma State University. Miller was the low amateur at the U.S. Open in 1977, the Masters in 1978, played on the Walker Cup team in 1977 and was College Golfer of the Year in 1978.
He became the first head professional at Fort Worth's Mira Vista Country Club, where he remained for 22 years and now serves as the teaching professional at Shady Oaks Country Club. In 1996, he started the Lindy Miller Foundation for Junior Golf, a charitable organization with the purpose of bringing the game of golf to underprivileged youth. Over the years, his foundation evolved into The First Tee of Fort Worth, where he remains an Honorary Board Member. He's also the boy's golf coach at Fort Worth Country Day school, and is responsible for corporate development and patron relations for The Ben Hogan Foundation.
Congratulations on an honor that is well-deserved, Lindy!
