Southern Texas PGA Leads After Day One of Levy Cup Matches

Denton, Texas – The Southern Texas PGA leads the Northern Texas PGA by one point after day one of the 3rd Annual Levy Cup Matches.

The Ryder Cup-style format features teams represented by six Assistant PGA Professionals and six Senior PGA Professionals (any classification, aged 50 and older) who qualified through their respective Section Major Championships. The teams competed in Four-Ball and Foursome Matches today and will compete in Singles Matches tomorrow. These Matches were created in 2017 to celebrate Paul Levy who was completing his first year of a two-year term as President of the PGA of America.

After the morning Four-Ball Matches, the Northern Texas PGA team took a one-point lead finishing with 3.5 points. Highlights include the most decisive victory of the matches thus far by Austin Tevlin, PGA assistant professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, and Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Dallas Athletic Club, who defeated Chris Pribyl, PGA assistant professional at Houston Country Club, and Chuck Westergard, PGA teaching professional at Mac Wylie Golf Center and STPGA playing co-captain 6&5.

In the afternoon Foursome Matches, Northern Texas claimed two matches, including a dramatic 1UP win on hole 18 by Brandon Bingaman, PGA assistant professional at Bent Tree Country Club and Robert Shields, owner of the Winsford Group over Eric Bogar, PGA assistant professional at Memorial Park Golf Course and Chuck Westergard, PGA teaching professional at Mac Wylie Golf Center. Southern Texas was able to secure the overall lead by winning four of the six matches heading into the final day's Singles Matches.

Robert Singletary, PGA head professional at Grapevine Golf Course, and Eric Hunt, PGA assistant professional at Grapevine Golf Course, are serving as Co-Captains for the Northern Texas PGA Team. The Southern Texas PGA Playing Co-Captains are Chuck Westergard, PGA teaching professional at Mac Wylie Teaching Center, and Justin Engel, PGA assistant professional at Shadow Hawk Golf Club.

One point is awarded to a winning match and a half point is awarded to any match that is tied after eighteen holes. Singles Matches will begin at 8:15 a.m. off of the first tee on Tuesday morning. The Matches are being contested at Denton Country Club a par 71 layout in Denton, Texas.

The Championship will take place Wednesday, May 27, through Friday, May 29, at Grapevine Golf Course. This 46th year of the Championship marks another chapter in the event’s rich history, continuing its tradition as one of the premier women’s tournaments in Texas. The projected overall purse is $80,000. For the third consecutive year, Grapevine Golf Course will serve as host, reinforcing the City of Grapevine’s commitment to supporting and growing women’s golf. The 2026 Championship continues its partnership with the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT). Thanks to the support of the ANNIKA WAPT, this Championship allows the top two finishers to receive exemptions into the Epson Tour’s Island Resort Championship, June 22–28 in Harris, Michigan. Additionally, ANNIKA WAPT members will earn points toward the Callaway Race to Q2, with all earnings counting toward the 2026 ANNIKA WAPT Official Money List. A total of 144 players will compete in a 54-hole stroke play format, with a cut to the low 50 players and ties after 36 holes. New for 2026, players shall gain access to compete in the Championship through qualifying events unless they are otherwise exempt.
