THE COLONY, TEXAS
– Cheyenne Knight, 2019 Volunteers of America Classic champion and Maddie Szeryk, former stand-out collegiate golfer at Texas A&M University and current Symetra Tour player, are tied for the lead after Round One of the 2020 Energy Producers, Inc. Texas Women’s Open. Both players shot opening rounds of 4-under par, carding 4 birdies each and no bogeys for the day. Knight shot a round of 33-34–67 and Szeryk shot 34-33–67.
Following her round, Knight spoke about her performance today and acknowledged how it felt to return to the course. “It’s been a while since I’ve played a tournament so I tried to be patient with myself,” she stated. “I played really smart today, hit a lot of greens, had four birdies and no bogeys. The highlight of today was the birdie I made on the first hole. I thought that was fitting for the first tournament hole back since February.”
“The first round went pretty well, very solid,” Szeryk reflected on her performance for the day. “I was never really in trouble and was able to get up and down and make some good putts.”
Knight and Szeryk will take a one-stroke lead into Round Two over four players who are T3, including LPGA Tour professional and former NTPGA Junior Tour member Brittany Lang. This is Lang’s first tournament back after becoming a mother at the beginning of the year. She held the lead earlier in the day and said, “It’s great to be back. I’m so thankful that I feel good. I have all my speed and power back and I’m hitting the ball like I was prior to being pregnant. I’ve been practicing a lot and hitting it really well, but it was really nice to shoot under par. I didn’t miss many shots today so it was really nice to get a solid round under my belt.”
The 55 professionals in the field are competing for a share of the $50,000 overall purse. The 64 amateurs are competing for the Low Amateur award and a crystal trophy as well as a gift certificate. Also, the top five amateurs who make the cut will be awarded gift certificates redeemable inside the golf shop at Golf Clubs at The Tribute. After Round Two, the field will be cut to the low 50 scores and ties.
The 2020 Texas Women's Open champion will receive a LPGA Tour exemption into the 2021 Marathon LPGA Classic at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.
The 54-hole stroke play event features a field of 119 top playing professionals and amateurs competing at Golf Clubs at The Tribute (Old American course). This is the second year that the Old American course is hosting the Championship after hosting in 2013. The 2020 Energy Producers, Inc. Texas Women's Open field is one of the best in the Championship's history and is stacked with LPGA Tour professionals, World Amateur Golf ranked amateurs, Olympians and more.

THE COLONY, Texas (March 2) – The team of Robert Bruns, PGA Head Professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, along with partner Chase Walts, PGM Student at Methodist University who currently works as an assistant at Trinity Forest Golf Club won the 2026 KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship after a two hole playoff. The two carded a bogey-free, 12-under-par, final score after shooting 64 on Old American Golf Club and a 31 on the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. They bested the team of Spencer Dillard and Alastair Jones from Preston Trail Golf Club. The 27-hole, Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship was hosted at Golf Clubs at The Tribute for the sixth straight year. Teams played Old American Golf Club and the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. Bruns and Walts both had looks inside 10 feet on the second playoff hole, though it was Bruns who poured in the winning putt. “I knew he had it in the bag, so I think that made it much easier for me to just be free and let it go,” said Bruns. Walts recently became an assistant professional at Trinity Forest, and said, “Robert is such a huge mentor to me and my career already. I hope to learn from everything he knows and that goes for golf as well.” “It makes it much easier when you’re in the mix coming down the fairway and you have a great relationship with each other. At the end of the day you’re just having fun,” Bruns said after their victory. This is the first win for both Bruns and Walts in Section Major Championships. The pair earned $3,200 ($1,600 each) out of the record $32,000 total championship purse. The KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship was presented by Callaway Golf, Club Car, Evolve Golf, Landmark Golf Course Products, Range Servant, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, and Winston Collection. It is about stewardship. He then gave four notes about his commitment in these next two years – to represent all Members, across facilities, across classifications, across backgrounds, to listen carefully, to communicate clearly, and to support the staff and volunteers who carry this Section forward every day. He finished his comments by saying, “I do not intend to reinvent what is already strong. I intend to build on it.” Thank you to all of the PGA of America Golf Professionals in our Section who attended these special and important events over the past few days. Our Board and our staff look forward to a successful 2026.
