Team of Brown/Atkinson Capture National Car Rental Pro-Scratch Championship
Lewisville, TX –
Christopher Brown, PGA TOUR caddie, and his amateur partner Zack Atkinson were able to make a move up the leaderboard during the final round to capture the National Car Rental Pro-Scratch Championship. The two fired a final round score of 12-under par 60 during the afternoon wave. They notched 12 birdies to overcome the morning lead (15-under par) that Greg Gregory, PGA assistant professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course, and his amateur partner Dillon Vaughn posted. Brown and Atkinson finished with a two round total of 19-under par 125.
Finishing runners up at 16-under par was the team of Benjamin Kern, head professional at Oeste Ranch Golf Course, and his amateur partner Derek Brown. Kern and Brown fired rounds of 64-64—128, carding eight birdies this afternoon during their final round.
Gregory and Vaughn finished in third place at 15-under par 129 for two rounds.
The Four-Ball Stroke Play Northern Texas PGA major championship featured a field of 52 teams comprised of one PGA professional teamed with one scratch amateur competing at The Lakes at Castle Hills, a par 72, 7,116-yard facility located in Lewisville, Texas. The championship is a rescheduled tournament from mid-April when weather rendered the golf course unplayable during the originally scheduled dates.
Teams competed for a share of the $15,050 purse. Brown and Atkinson took home $1,500 for their first place victory. Amateurs were awarded gift certificates. Eligible professionals also competed in a $500 Volvik Skins Game.
The National Car Rental Pro-Scratch Championship was presented by Adventures In Golf, AHEAD, AT&T Byron Nelson, IMAVEX, Mizuno USA, Volvik and WeatherBug.
