The Texas Joe Black Cup Matches is an annual competition between the Northern Texas PGA and the Southern Texas PGA Sections. The event was started in 1981 to honor Joe Black, a Snyder, Texas, native who was completing his first year as President of The PGA of America that year. This year marks the 41st playing of the Matches.

“For these Matches to have lasted 41 years is truly a testament to two things. The first being all of the eligible PGA Members that have embraced the event and made it their top priority to earn a place on the team year in and year out,” said Mark Harrison, NTPGA Vice Captain and Executive Director / CEO of the Northern Texas PGA. “The second item is Mr. and Mrs. Black are always in attendance at the Matches. Mr. Black is a true legend in golf, and all of our PGA Members, whether they are first timers or seasoned veterans, want to be there to compete and spend time with him and his lovely wife, Susan.”

The overall Matches record currently sits in a tie at 19-19-2. The Ryder Cup-style format features 12 golf professionals from each Section competing in Four-Ball and Foursome Matches the first day followed by Singles Matches the final day.

The teams from each Section are represented by their President, the top playing PGA directors of golf, PGA head professionals and PGA general managers and a Captain’s Pick from the same classifications.
