Two Rounds Complete at the Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Match Play Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas – Round One and Round Two Matches of the Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Match Play Championship resulted in four of the top ten seeds moving on to the Quarter Final Matches. Tuesday morning’s Quarter Final Matches will feature #8 seed Todd Balkin, PGA assistant professional at Royal Oaks Country Club and #32 seed Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course; #5 seed Greg Gregory, PGA head professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course, and #29 seed Julie Wells, PGA director of instruction at Cedar Creek Country Club; Jon Antunes (#14 seed), PGA director of instruction at Hot Golf, Inc., and Brian Norman (#6 seed), PGA teaching professional at Gleneagles Country Club; and #2 seed Josh Havard, PGA head professional at Rolling Hills Country Club, and #26 seed Michael Martin, PGA teaching professional at Leonard Golf Links.

Glanton is the lowest remaining seed in the field. He was able to best the #1 seeded Matt Lohmeyer, PGA teaching professional at GolfTec – Montgomery Plaza, 2&1 in Round One and #17 seeded Adam Headley, PGA head professional at Green Tree Country Club, 3&1 in Round Two. #26 seed Michael Martin also advanced after defeating two higher-ranked opponents, including #7 seeded Thomas Devanna, PGA assistant professional at Tangle Ridge Golf Club, 4&3 in Round One, and #23 seeded Dean Larsson, PGA head professional at Royal Oaks Country Club, 1up in Round Two.

The Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Match Play Championship is being contested October 14-16 at River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, a 6,512-yard, par 70 layout. The Championship is presented by Adventures In Golf, AT&T Byron Nelson, Green Garden Gold and PGA TOUR. The top 32 players on the final 2019 Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Player of the Year Points Challenge were invited to compete in the season-ending major championship. Quarter Final Matches will be played on Tuesday morning with the Semi-Final Matches following in the afternoon. The Championship Match will be played on Wednesday morning, with the winner taking home $7,000 of the $42,000 Open Division purse.

The Championship also includes a Senior Division. The division features eight of the top professionals from the 2019 OMEGA & XXIO Senior Points Challenge list competing for their own $10,500 purse. Today the Senior Division played the Quarter Final and Semi-Final Matches with Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Dallas Athletic Club (#1 seed) and Tom Strueber, PGA Life Member (#6 seed) advancing to the Final Match. The eventual Senior Division champion will take home a trophy and a check for $3,500.

The PGA of America announced today that Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, will be inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Glanton, a native of Mineral Wells, Texas, began his career in 1981 as an Assistant Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas. Upon achieving PGA of America membership in 1984, he took over as Head Professional and has been at the Richardson facility ever since. He is the only member to serve twice as President of the NTPGA (2006-07, ‘18-’19). Glanton played a key role in the PGA of America’s relocation to Frisco, Texas. He is a passionate advocate for junior golf, developing impactful programs like the Sherrill Park Learning Center and the Hawks junior golf team, which have introduced thousands of new golfers to the game; his leadership in the creation of “The Ronny” Golf Park on the PGA Frisco campus further expands community outreach and player development. Among his previous awards are PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year (2020), NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year (1999, ‘07, ‘19), NTPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award (2003-05, ‘08, ‘14) and NTPGA Merchandiser of the Year (1994), plus induction into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Glanton actively supports his colleagues, raising over $100,000 through pro-ams for PGA Members facing medical hardships. He’s also been a four-time contestant in the PGA Professional Championship, five-time contestant in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship and seven-time participant in the PGA TOUR Byron Nelson (now the CJ Cup Byron Nelson). Glanton is a three-time NTPGA Major Champion, six-time Senior Division Major Champion and a 17-time member of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team, which he has also captained three times. The PGA of America Hall of Fame originated in 1940 at the suggestion of famed sportswriter Grantland Rice. It is the highest honor the PGA of America can bestow upon its membership or ambassadors of the game.
