Worster Captures National Car Rental Northern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship

NTPGA • August 14, 2017

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Wes Worster, assistant professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, captured the National Car Rental Northern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship by one stroke over Greg Gregory, PGA assistant professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course. Worster carded rounds of 69-67—136, 6-under, to capture his first Assistant Championship title and first individual Northern Texas PGA major championship. He took home a $1,100 check for his win today.

“It feels great,” Worster said after securing the Championship. “I played great. I hit the ball really good. I think the only bogeys I had were three-putts. I played a practice round the other day and the wind was blowing out of the West or some strange way, and I told Garrison Marx, who I was playing my practice round with, 'This is the hardest course I've eve played! If I shoot level par I am going to be happy.' But, I got out here today and the South wind was blowing this morning, and it kind of died this afternoon, and I hit it a lot better than I did in my practice round. I think my midirons were my strength today. I hit a lot of good, quality golf shots from about 170."

The Championship experienced a weather delay before play even began; setting starting times back an hour. The 36-hole, one-day Championship was adjusted to be continuous play.

Worster will lead two other assistant professionals from the Northern Texas Section to the 41st National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship. They include Gregory as well as Todd Balkin, assistant professional at Preston Trail Golf Club. The National Championship will be played November 9 – November 12, 2017 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

The National Car Rental Northern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship was conducted at Mira Vista Country Club, a 6,919-yard par 71 course located in Fort Worth, Texas. A field of 55 assistant golf professionals competed for a share of the $7,250 purse. Forty-five professionals were attempting to qualify for the National Championship.
