Worster Leads After Round One of the TPx Communications Western Championship

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – Wes Worster, assistant professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, leads after Round One of the TPx Communications Western Championship. Worster carded six birdies and an eagle to open the Championship with an 8-under-par 64.

Cameron Doan, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, played a similar round to Worster, notching six birdies and an eagle. But, with a bogey on hole five he sits one shot back of the top spot.

The Championship includes a Senior Division that is comprised of 32 professionals aged 50 or older who are competing for a separate purse and playing at a modified yardage. Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Dallas Athletic Club, is currently leading the Senior Division at 4-under-par 68.

The TPx Communications Western Championship is conducted by the Northern Texas PGA Section and is presented by AT&T Byron Nelson, Cutter & Buck, Evolve Golf, Nexbelt, PGA TOUR, PlayKleen and Thiel & Thiel. This 36-hole NTPGA major championship is the second of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf, and serves as a qualifier for the 2019 Texas Joe Black Cup and Levy Cup teams.

The Championship is being conducted at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie, Texas, a 6,835-yard, par 72 layout. The 112-player field is comprised of golf professionals from the Northern Texas Section of the PGA of America who are competing for an estimated overall purse of $36,000.

Round Two will commence at 8:00 a.m. with tee times off of #1 and #10 tee. The leaders will tee off at approximately 1:51 p.m.

GRAPEVINE, Texas – Registration is now open for the 2026 Destination Grapevine Texas Women’s Open and its qualifying events. The Championship will take place Wednesday, May 27, through Friday, May 29, at Grapevine Golf Course. This 46th year of the Championship marks another chapter in the event’s rich history, continuing its tradition as one of the premier women’s tournaments in Texas. The projected overall purse is $80,000. For the third consecutive year, Grapevine Golf Course will serve as host, reinforcing the City of Grapevine’s commitment to supporting and growing women’s golf. Known for its hospitality and spirited community, Grapevine looks forward to building on the success of previous Championships while delivering a first-class experience for players and spectators alike. The 2026 Championship continues its partnership with the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT). Thanks to the support of the ANNIKA WAPT, this Championship allows the top two finishers to receive exemptions into the Epson Tour’s Island Resort Championship, June 22–28 in Harris, Michigan. Additionally, ANNIKA WAPT members will earn points toward the Callaway Race to Q2, with all earnings counting toward the 2026 ANNIKA WAPT Official Money List. A total of 144 players will compete in a 54-hole stroke play format, with a cut to the low 50 players and ties after 36 holes. New for 2026, players shall gain access to compete in the Championship through qualifying events unless they are otherwise exempt.
