Chris Brown Holds a One Shot lead at The Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship

DENTON, Texas - Chris Brown, PGA stormed to the top of the leaderboard late in the afternoon to claim a one shot lead at the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship hosted at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch. He fired a round of 34–31–65 to finish at 6-under-par. Chris is a two-time Northern Texas PGA Major Champion and competes when he is not traveling on the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions. He currently caddies on PGA TOUR Champions for Matt Gogel.
Four professionals are within one shot of the lead following the conclusion of round one. Spencer Dillard, PGA assistant professional at Preston Trail Golf Club. Andrew Lewis, PGA director of instruction at Altus Performance. Defending champion Chad Moscovic, PGA director of instruction at Brook Hollow Golf Club. Gabe Reynolds, PGA director of instruction at Topgolf Dallas. These four along with 10 other professionals within three shots of the lead will look to chase down Brown in the final round tomorrow.
One of many highlights on the course today was a double eagle on the par-5 eighth hole recorded by Junho Kim, PGA teaching professional at Kim’s USA.
The 107 PGA Member field is competing for seven qualifying spots into the 55th PGA Professional Championship set to take place April 17-20, 2022 at the OMNI Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas. Brian Norman, 2020 Player of the Year and PGA assistant professional at Royal Oaks Country Club, is already exempt for the Championship via the “Section’s pick” which is awarded annually to the reigning Northern Texas PGA Player of the Year.
The Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship features a $30,000 purse, the second largest in its history. The Championship is presented by Cadillac, Club Car, and Rolex, and is supported by Titleist / FootJoy, Nike, and TaylorMade. Supporting partners are the Golf Channel and PGA TOUR. The Championship is being conducted at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch (South & West Courses), a 6,763-yard, par 71 layout located in Denton, Texas.
The Championship is the third of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company | Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO / ASICS Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf and Cyber Group, and serves as a qualifier for the 2021 Texas Joe Black Cup and Levy Cup teams.
