Doan Three-Peats at Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship

Taylor Coffelt • June 16, 2020
In a sudden death playoff against former PGA TOUR professional, PGA Life Member and his former college roommate, Paul Stankowski, Cameron Doan, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, captured the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship for the third year in a row. Doan claimed the victory with rounds of 68-69—137, 7-under-par and took home a $1,000 check. This marks Doan’s 10th overall Individual NTPGA Major Championship win.

Coming off of a win last week at the TPx Communications Western Championship, Doan was elated to share a second win with his son and caddie, Tristan. “It was pretty cool to have him with me again today. He was able to calm me down and we played the last eleven [holes] 4-under.”

Stankowski also finished at 7-under but fell just short during the two-hole sudden-death playoff. He had nothing but positive things to say about Doan, though, and even reminisced about their college years. “[Playing alongside Cameron] brought back a lot of memories. We played four years together at the University of Texas El Paso and I’ve admired his career as a golf professional. We always knew he was going to be something special no matter what he did. I was hoping we’d get paired together at some point today and I was thrilled to [lose] to ‘Sarge’ once again.”

Qualifying for the 32nd Senior PGA Professional Championship was held in conjunction with the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Thirty-six (36) professionals of the 58-man field attempted to qualify this week.

Doan will lead four others to represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the National Championship to be held at PGA Golf Club, Wanamaker & Ryder Courses, in Port St. Lucie, FL on October 15-18. They include Stankowski, Rick Woodson, PGA teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, Bruce Smith, PGA director of instruction at Black Belt Golf Academy, and Brad Ott, PGA director of instruction at TPC Craig Ranch.

The 2020 Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, supported by The Golf Channel and John Deere, was a 36-hole stroke play event contested at Hurricane Creek Country Club, a 6,658-yard, par 72 layout located in Anna, Texas. The field was competing for a purse of $9,000.
