About Dr. Bill Blair

Dr. Bill Blair embodies a spirit of service and innovation.

A Dallas native, Blair graduated from Highland Park High School in 1960 and then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a degree in History and Economics in 1965. After several years working as a stockbroker in Dallas, he made the decision to pursue a career in medicine. He attended the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, from 1969 to 1975, then returned to Texas for his internship in anesthesiology at Parkland Hospital in Dallas in 1976. He went on to complete his residency at Scott and White in Temple in 1977, later expanding his expertise with a fellowship in pain management in Canada from 1989 to 1991.

Blair’s medical career took him across the United States and Canada. He began as an anesthesiologist in Georgia and North Carolina before shifting his focus to pain management, where he practiced in Canada from 1991 until his retirement in 2009. After retiring, he returned to Dallas, where he quickly immersed himself in the golf community.

Upon his return, Blair joined Royal Oaks Country Club in 2010 and began taking lessons from legendary PGA professional Randy Smith. Their friendship grew over the years, and in 2022, the Northern Texas PGA honored both men by naming its Growth of the Game Pavilion the Randy Smith & Dr. Bill Blair WHO’S NEXT Pavilion. Blair later moved to Fredericksburg in 2020, becoming a member at Boot Ranch, before returning once more to Dallas in 2025.

Blair’s support of the Northern Texas PGA Foundation has been extraordinary. He has committed the largest planned gift in the Foundation’s history, a bequest that will endow scholarships, create a need-based entry fee endowment for juniors, help expand the Junior Tour, and even support housing for year-round interns. His vision and generosity will ensure opportunities for future generations of young golfers, future PGA professionals, and future golf administrators.

Through his deep commitment to giving back, Dr. Bill Blair has left an indelible mark on the Northern Texas PGA.
