About Jerry J. Ransom
In 2016, Jerry Ransom was introduced to Mark Harrison, who was then the Northern Texas PGA Executive Director. He had a passion for the game of golf and a servant’s heart. Inspired by the NTPGA Foundation’s mission of positively impacting the community through golf, he committed himself to supporting the organization. Since then, Ransom has been a key contributor to the Northern Texas PGA Foundation and several of the community outreach programs it conducts.
In February 2020, when the Northern Texas PGA launched a capital campaign for its new offices at PGA Frisco, Ransom was the lead contributor. Now, the Northern Texas PGA office bears his name – the Jerry J. Ransom Northern Texas PGA Golf House.
“The Northern Texas PGA Foundation does so many wonderful things to grow the game for kids in North Texas, and with the Golf House, I look forward to helping them make a bigger impact,” said Jerry Ransom. “Helping to make the NTPGA’s dream of having their own homesite a reality is something special that I knew I wanted to be a part of.”
Since his introduction to the Section, Ransom has helped create two events that benefit the NTPGA Foundation and the PGA of America golf professionals, respectively.
The first event is the Jerry J. Ransom Pro-Junior-Am. First played in 2018, the event pairs a local PGA of America golf professional, a talented Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour member and amateur golfers. Thanks to Ransom and the amateur golfers, this event has helped raise funds for the Northern Texas PGA Foundation. A participating junior golfer is also randomly drawn to receive a college scholarship at this event.
In 2024, Ransom then decided that he wanted to give back to the PGA of America golf professionals who make up the Northern Texas PGA, thanking them for their efforts to support the NTPGA Foundation. So, the Jerry J. Ransom Shootout at the Oaks was formed. The first year, The Oaks Country Club in Greenville hosted the event for 70 Northern Texas PGA Members and Associates employed at a facility that supports the NTPGA Foundation's growth of the game initiatives. The event was designed to be a fun and unique way to thank the men and women in this Section who work diligently to continue to grow the game alongside the NTPGA Foundation.
Ransom was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up on a small farm in Western Oklahoma, where he attended Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Oklahoma. For undergraduate school, he attended the University of Oklahoma. Today, he is a significant contributor to the university. In 1966, he received a BS in Engineering Physics. Ransom continued his education, earning an MS in Information & Control Sciences, a Doctor of Electrical Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Southern Methodist University.
From 1966-1978, Ransom worked for the defense contractor LTV Electrosystems/E-Systems as a Digital Systems Engineering Manager. In 1978, he founded OmyiSYS, Inc. to develop Computer-Aided Transcription Systems for Court and Freelance Reporters. His companies also developed systems and services for the healthcare industry. He sold OmniSYS, Inc. to a private equity company in 2007.
Ransom resides in Greenville, Texas, and from 1982 to 1985, Mr. Ransom served on the Greenville City Council. In 2021, he was elected mayor of Greenville.
Ransom and his wife, Tommie Lynn, have three grown children and two grandchildren.  He is an avid golfer who also enjoys skiing and gardening. He is known for his philanthropy toward local organizations.
