Norris Defends Title at Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship
IRVING, TEXAS –
Defending champion Paul Norris, PGA golf coach at Texas Wesleyan University, repeated at the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. After posting an opening round of 63, Norris had to fight a bit during today’s round for the win. He carded only one birdie, four bogeys and two double bogeys for a second round 78, but it was enough to secure a one-stroke victory over Michael Krsnak, PGA head professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course, Sam Randolph, PGA director of instruction at Mira Vista Country Club, and Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Green Tree Country Club. He took home a $1,600 check for his victory.
"Well, it is always nice to repeat, but obviously I would have liked to have done it in a little bit better fashion. Today was a bit embarrassing at times, but I don't win very often, so obviously this is a thrill," Norris said after his round. "The wind was up a little today, but this was just one of those things. Sometimes if I get a good night's sleep I will get up and I am a completely different person the next day, and unfortunately that was the way today was. But, yesterday was a lot of fun and hopefully I and take form that and build on it."
Qualifying for the 2016 Senior PGA Professional National Championship was held in conjunction with the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Norris will lead five other NTPGA members to the 2016 Senior PGA Professional National Championship, which will be conducted on November 17-20, 2016 at PGA Golf Club, Port St. Lucie, Florida. Joining Norris will be Krsnak, Randolph and Hendley as well as John Sikes, PGA director of golf at Hollytree Country Club and Lindy Miller, PGA teaching professional at Shady Oaks Country Club. Thirty-two professionals attempted to qualify for the national championship.
"I love Port St. Lucie. I love our facility down there. Obviously, I would like to get to the Senior PGA, so I have a goal this year of doing well enough to qualify. I am so honored to be a part of the guys who have qualified. I think it is going to be a lot of fun down there,” said Norris.
The 2016 Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship supported by Mercedes-Benz was a 36-hole stroke play event contested on the Cottonwood Valley Course at Four Seasons Resort and Club, a 6,765-yard, par 71 layout located in Irving, Texas. The 48-player field competed for a total purse of $8,800.
