Sikes / Norman Tied for Lead After Round One of the TelePacific Communications Western Championship
FORT WORTH, TX –
John Sikes, PGA director of golf at Hollytree Country Club, and Brian Norman, PGA teaching professional at Gleneagles Country Club, are currently tied for the lead at the TelePacific Communications Western Championship. Sikes and Norman each carded a matching six birdies and two bogeys to open the Championship with a 4-under par 67.
They currently hold a two-stroke lead over David Studebaker, assistant professional at Cross Timbers Golf Course. Studebaker carded three birdies and a bogey to shoot a 2-under par 69.
Five players sit three shots back of the leaders, including defending champion, Greg Gregory, PGA assistant professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course.
The Championship includes a Senior Division that is comprised of 32 professionals aged 50 or older who are competing for a separate $8,750 estimated purse and playing at a modified yardage. The Senior champion will take home $1,500. Paul Norris, PGA golf coach at Texas Wesleyan University, is currently leading the Senior Division at 4-under-par 67.
The TelePacific Communications Western Championship is conducted by the Northern Texas PGA Section and is presented by Adventures In Golf, AT&T Byron Nelson, Junior.Golf, Nexbelt, PGA TOUR, PlayKleen, TINO’S GOLF, and TurfHound. This 36-hole NTPGA major championship is the second of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company / Lajitas Golf Resort Player of the Year Points Challenge, and serves as a qualifier for the 2016 Texas Joe Black Cup team.
The Championship is being conducted at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, a 6,890-yard, par 71 layout.
The 128-player field is comprised of golf professionals from the Northern Texas Section of the PGA of America who are competing for an estimated overall purse of $37,000. Professionals in the Open division are competing for a projected $26,250 purse with the champion taking home $3,700.
