Stevens Park Golf Course Set to Host Assist the Officer Pro-Am Officer

Dallas, Texas – On Monday, September 26 Stevens Park Golf Course in Dallas will play host to the Assist the Officer Pro-Am-Officer. The City of Dallas Parks & Recreation Department and their PGA golf professionals in conjunction with the Northern Texas PGA are conducting a Pro-Am-Officer to benefit the Assist the Officer Foundation. All proceeds from the event will benefit the families of the five officers who were killed in the line of duty on July 7, 2016.

The Assist the Officer Foundation provides financial assistance to officers who are facing the loss of income due to a serious injury, life-threatening illness or other catastrophic events. Immediate assistance is also available to an officer's family in the event of the death of an active officer. Since its creation in 1999, the foundation has provided assistance to hundreds of officers and their families. The Assist the Officer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

The ATO Pro-Am-Officer will be conducted at Stevens Park Golf Course. Each team of three amateurs will be paired with a Dallas Police Department Officer and a Northern Texas PGA professional. Play will commence with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. Registration will commence at 11:30 a.m. Teams will play a five person shamble, with amateurs receiving 50% of their handicap (maximum handicap 28).

The entry fee is $3,000 per team. A team may consist of three amateurs OR, three amateurs and a PGA professional. If a team does not have a PGA professional, the Northern Texas PGA will assign a PGA professional to play with the team. The Pro-Am-Officer will be limited to 20 teams.

In addition, a Dallas Police Department Officer will be assigned to each team. The entry fee includes the following: lunch prior to the Pro-Am-Officer, dinner following the Pro-Am-Officer, one round of golf with a golf cart Stevens Park Golf Course, tee gifts for each amateur participant, non-alcoholic beverages during the Pro-Am-Officer, closest to the hole/long drive prizes for amateurs, amateurs on the 1st place team will receive trophies. Individual players may sign up for $1,000 by contacting PGA Head Professional at Stevens Park Golf Course, Jim Henderson. In addition, hole sponsorships are available for $250.

The PGA of America announced today that Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, will be inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Glanton, a native of Mineral Wells, Texas, began his career in 1981 as an Assistant Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas. Upon achieving PGA of America membership in 1984, he took over as Head Professional and has been at the Richardson facility ever since. He is the only member to serve twice as President of the NTPGA (2006-07, ‘18-’19). Glanton played a key role in the PGA of America’s relocation to Frisco, Texas. He is a passionate advocate for junior golf, developing impactful programs like the Sherrill Park Learning Center and the Hawks junior golf team, which have introduced thousands of new golfers to the game; his leadership in the creation of “The Ronny” Golf Park on the PGA Frisco campus further expands community outreach and player development. Among his previous awards are PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year (2020), NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year (1999, ‘07, ‘19), NTPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award (2003-05, ‘08, ‘14) and NTPGA Merchandiser of the Year (1994), plus induction into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Glanton actively supports his colleagues, raising over $100,000 through pro-ams for PGA Members facing medical hardships. He’s also been a four-time contestant in the PGA Professional Championship, five-time contestant in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship and seven-time participant in the PGA TOUR Byron Nelson (now the CJ Cup Byron Nelson). Glanton is a three-time NTPGA Major Champion, six-time Senior Division Major Champion and a 17-time member of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team, which he has also captained three times. The PGA of America Hall of Fame originated in 1940 at the suggestion of famed sportswriter Grantland Rice. It is the highest honor the PGA of America can bestow upon its membership or ambassadors of the game.
