McCorkle Wins Senior Division Title

MIDLAND, Texas (July 16) – Zach Sudinsky, associate at Dallas Athletic Club, fired a final round 7-under-par, 65 to win the Golf Pro Payments Western Championship by five strokes.

Sudinsky finished the Championship at 10-under-par after rounds of 69-65–134. His final round today featured a stretch of five birdies in six holes on the back nine. “I just started hitting it close. One [birdie] was a two-putt and everything else was inside of eight feet,” said Sudinsky about his play during that stretch.

“I hit it pretty good this week. Ball striking is my strength, good off the tee and good off the green, so I was able to lay back off the tee and make sure I was hitting it in play. [Midland Country Club] is a phenomenal golf course, and it’s in perfect shape. The greens were awesome. It was a treat to play.”

This was Sudinsky’s first individual Section major championship victory and only his second time competing in one. He earned $4,500 as the victor.

Todd McCorkle, PGA Life Member, claimed the Senior Division. He fired back-to-back rounds of 69, to finish the Championship at 6-under-par with a one-stroke victory.

“I got off to a great start today. I made an eagle on the fourth hole that got me going,” said McCorkle. I knew there was going to be no backing up from him [Sam Randolph, round one division leader], so I felt like I was probably going to have to go out there and shoot four or five under today.”

The victory in Midland was McCorkle’s first NTPGA win since October of 2022. “To be really honest, I have had the worst month in my life for golf this past month. I felt like I was finally turning the corner, but I wasn’t really confident [heading into the Championship].” McCorkle heads back to Fort Worth with an $1,800 check for his victory.

This 36-hole Northern Texas PGA major championship was the second of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company | Srixon and Nike Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf. The field competed for a record overall purse of $50,000.

The Golf Pro Payments Western Championship was presented by Cobra Puma Golf, Destination Kohler, Glow Vibe Golf, GT Golf Supply Co, Jerry J. Ransom, Midland Country Club, PGA TOUR, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson and TurfHound.

The PGA of America announced today that Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, will be inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Glanton, a native of Mineral Wells, Texas, began his career in 1981 as an Assistant Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas. Upon achieving PGA of America membership in 1984, he took over as Head Professional and has been at the Richardson facility ever since. He is the only member to serve twice as President of the NTPGA (2006-07, ‘18-’19). Glanton played a key role in the PGA of America’s relocation to Frisco, Texas. He is a passionate advocate for junior golf, developing impactful programs like the Sherrill Park Learning Center and the Hawks junior golf team, which have introduced thousands of new golfers to the game; his leadership in the creation of “The Ronny” Golf Park on the PGA Frisco campus further expands community outreach and player development. Among his previous awards are PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year (2020), NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year (1999, ‘07, ‘19), NTPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award (2003-05, ‘08, ‘14) and NTPGA Merchandiser of the Year (1994), plus induction into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Glanton actively supports his colleagues, raising over $100,000 through pro-ams for PGA Members facing medical hardships. He’s also been a four-time contestant in the PGA Professional Championship, five-time contestant in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship and seven-time participant in the PGA TOUR Byron Nelson (now the CJ Cup Byron Nelson). Glanton is a three-time NTPGA Major Champion, six-time Senior Division Major Champion and a 17-time member of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team, which he has also captained three times. The PGA of America Hall of Fame originated in 1940 at the suggestion of famed sportswriter Grantland Rice. It is the highest honor the PGA of America can bestow upon its membership or ambassadors of the game.
