NTPGA • July 9, 2016

ARLINGTON, TX – Savannah Vilaubi of Downey, California, captured the Energy Producers, Inc. Texas Women’s Open at Rolling Hills Country Club by two strokes over Megan Thothong (a) of Dallas and Kyung Kim of Chandler, Arizona. Vilaubi scored a final round of 69, 2-under-par, to secure her first Texas Women’s Open victory. Vilaubi played consistent golf all week with rounds of 73-71-69—213, even par.

2007 Champion Shannon Fish of Spring, Texas remained in contention throughout the tournament, and applied early pressure to Vilaubi on the front nine. Fish would go on to finish the championship in 4th place, with a final score of 216, 3-over-par. Rounds one and two leader Christina Lecuyer struggled to find her rhythm during the final round, and finished the Championship with a final score of 223, 10-over-par.

Texas Women’s Open newcomer and amateur Megan Thothong closed out a stellar tournament by firing the low score of the day (68) during which she birdied five of her final nine holes. With rounds of 71-76-68—215 (2-over-par), Megan finished as the Low Amateur for the Championship. Megan is a junior at the University of Houston where she plays collegiately.

Despite the steady pressure from tough competition, Vilaubi managed to stay composed and captured what she described as her “greatest professional victory to date.” With her win, Vilaubi takes home $5,000 and, more importantly, an exemption into the LPGA Tour’s 2017 Volunteers of America Texas Shootout.

"It's a pretty cloud nine feeling. It's the biggest tournament that I've won, and even more than the check, you have the exemption and the biggest field that I've played in, so it's a pretty fantastic feeling," Vilaubi said.

Following yesterday’s round, the 141-player field was cut to the low 50 scores and ties. 55 players made the cut, which was at 12-over-par 154. The 55 players consisted of 36 professionals and 19 amateurs.

The 36 professionals that remained in the field competed for a share of the $30,455 overall purse. The 19 amateurs competed for the low amateur award and a crystal trophy. The top five amateurs received gift certificates.

The 54-hole stroke play event was conducted from July 7 through July 9 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Arlington, Texas. This was the third year for Rolling Hills Country Club to play host to the championship.

THE COLONY, Texas (March 2) – The team of Robert Bruns, PGA Head Professional at Trinity Forest Golf Club, along with partner Chase Walts, PGM Student at Methodist University who currently works as an assistant at Trinity Forest Golf Club won the 2026 KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship after a two hole playoff. The two carded a bogey-free, 12-under-par, final score after shooting 64 on Old American Golf Club and a 31 on the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. They bested the team of Spencer Dillard and Alastair Jones from Preston Trail Golf Club. The 27-hole, Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship was hosted at Golf Clubs at The Tribute for the sixth straight year. Teams played Old American Golf Club and the back nine of Tribute Golf Links. Bruns and Walts both had looks inside 10 feet on the second playoff hole, though it was Bruns who poured in the winning putt. “I knew he had it in the bag, so I think that made it much easier for me to just be free and let it go,” said Bruns. Walts recently became an assistant professional at Trinity Forest, and said, “Robert is such a huge mentor to me and my career already. I hope to learn from everything he knows and that goes for golf as well.” “It makes it much easier when you’re in the mix coming down the fairway and you have a great relationship with each other. At the end of the day you’re just having fun,” Bruns said after their victory. This is the first win for both Bruns and Walts in Section Major Championships. The pair earned $3,200 ($1,600 each) out of the record $32,000 total championship purse. The KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship was presented by Callaway Golf, Club Car, Evolve Golf, Landmark Golf Course Products, Range Servant, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, and Winston Collection.
