Fort Worth, Texas – The Northern Texas PGA defeated the Southern Texas PGA at the 5th Levy Cup Matches. They won by an overall points total of 12.5 to 11.5. The Northern Texas team needed and earned 5.5 points in today’s Singles Matches to secure the victory.

This marks the second victory for the Northern Texas PGA in the five-year history of the Levy Cup Matches.

Team NTPGA started the day with early success when Brian Norman, PGA assistant professional at Royal Oaks Country Club, won 8&6 over Justin Engel, PGA assistant professional at Shadow Hawk Golf Club.

Billy Harris, PGA head professional at Dallas Country Club, secured an important half point for Team NTPGA. He was three down with four holes remaining in the match. After winning holes 15, 16 and 17, he made par on the final hole to halve the match.

“I was thinking I needed to do something and make something happen, and luckily it was enough to get us over the hump,” said Harris when asked about being three down in the match.

The Ryder Cup-style format featured teams represented by six Assistant PGA Professionals and six Senior PGA Professionals (any classification, aged 50 and older) who qualified through their respective Section Major Championships. The teams competed in Four-Ball and Foursome Matches Monday and competed in Singles Matches today. These Matches were created in 2017 to celebrate Paul Levy who was completing his first year of a two-year term as President of The PGA of America. The 2021 Levy Cup Matches were presented by Club Car, Criquet, Dunning and PING.

Mike Wright, PGA director of golf at Shady Oaks Country Club, and Jordan Marlow, PGA assistant professional at Shady Oaks Country Club, served as first-time Co-Captains for the Northern Texas PGA Team. The Southern Texas PGA Co-Captains were Ale Maurtua, PGA assistant professional at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, and Playing Co-Captain Robert Thompson, PGA teaching professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club.

The Matches were held at River Crest Country Club, a 6,512-yard, par 70 layout in Fort Worth, Texas. The Senior Professionals played from 6,054 yards. One point was awarded to a winning match and a half point was awarded to any match that was tied after eighteen holes.

The PGA of America announced today that Ronny Glanton, PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, will be inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Glanton, a native of Mineral Wells, Texas, began his career in 1981 as an Assistant Professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas. Upon achieving PGA of America membership in 1984, he took over as Head Professional and has been at the Richardson facility ever since. He is the only member to serve twice as President of the NTPGA (2006-07, ‘18-’19). Glanton played a key role in the PGA of America’s relocation to Frisco, Texas. He is a passionate advocate for junior golf, developing impactful programs like the Sherrill Park Learning Center and the Hawks junior golf team, which have introduced thousands of new golfers to the game; his leadership in the creation of “The Ronny” Golf Park on the PGA Frisco campus further expands community outreach and player development. Among his previous awards are PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year (2020), NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year (1999, ‘07, ‘19), NTPGA Bill Strausbaugh Award (2003-05, ‘08, ‘14) and NTPGA Merchandiser of the Year (1994), plus induction into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. Glanton actively supports his colleagues, raising over $100,000 through pro-ams for PGA Members facing medical hardships. He’s also been a four-time contestant in the PGA Professional Championship, five-time contestant in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship and seven-time participant in the PGA TOUR Byron Nelson (now the CJ Cup Byron Nelson). Glanton is a three-time NTPGA Major Champion, six-time Senior Division Major Champion and a 17-time member of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team, which he has also captained three times. The PGA of America Hall of Fame originated in 1940 at the suggestion of famed sportswriter Grantland Rice. It is the highest honor the PGA of America can bestow upon its membership or ambassadors of the game.
